As a retired educator
I am committed to cultivating a meaningful education accessible to every student in Dickson County. I believe public education is a public service, and it is the greatest equalizer we can offer our children. My master's degree in education and my experience as a classroom teacher uniquely qualify me to make informed decisions about what works best for the students and teachers. I have been on numerous committees and leadership teams during my career as an educator, and I have supervised student teachers from three universities. I served at the state level on an English Language Arts curriculum standards overhaul, and as a lead-teacher, contributed to planning and aligning curriculum at the school level.
For Students
Essential Human Skills: Identifies effective communication and problem-solving as timeless, non-negotiable requirements for future success.
Adaptive Education: Emphasizes that quality education must be meaningful, adaptable, and focused on evolving real-world skills rather than static multiple-choice testing.
Preparedness for the Future: Asserts that every student must graduate with both a clear direction forward and the tools to adapt as the community's needs evolve.
For the Community
Enhanced Transparency: Improve communication by posting meeting transcripts—including work sessions—online within 24 hours, eliminating the need for stakeholders to wait months for official minutes.
Collaborative Planning: Rely on a broad group of stakeholders to identify potential consequences of policy changes, ensuring decisions aren't made in a vacuum.
People-Driven Change: Require diverse community input (via forums, focus groups, and roundtables) from parents, teachers, students, and business owners before any major program overhauls.
